Sun, 13 Sep 2015 13:20:00 +0000Above the SofaWhere are the most people looking for in a gallery? Most mentioned is: We are looking for something above our sofa, often a second or two later, it must also match the curtains :-)Of course this is logic. Most work is positioned just above the sofa as most are at or just in front of a wall. And on a wall it is nice to hang anything. The opposite side of the sofa would be the most logical place, because the work is still seen as one stroked down on the sofa. But nowadays a monster of a TV is hanging there and that's often a bad combination with a artwork. In other words, it must hang above the sofa. The Galerie Den Haag thought this was a nice theme for an exhibition and asked several artist to give there view. I'm very honored to be on this exhibition with great artist like Geert Kollau, Ria Nieswaag, Michael Miller, Theo Koster. Susan Schildkamp, Crail Moan Burg, Bram Reinders and Bastiaan Kijzers who all worked in recent months to an artwork which in their opinion is very suitable for above the sofa. The exhibition - For above the Sofa - can be seen until Sunday 4 October and yes there are nice sofas where the artwork will be hanging above.

The structures are being reclaimed by nature. "In the winter months, the freeze-thaw cycles take a toll on architectural elements of [a] building. During hotter months, humidity can also act on plaster walls, while storms can punch out holes on roofs and further expose already rotting wooden elements of a structure.
I visit derelict buildings, ranging from a psychiatric hospital to an abandoned bowling alley, despite we are one of the richest continents off the world, “decay” is hidden in plain sight.
Do you ever wonder what lies behind that fence?

Sat, 10 Aug 2013 12:17:00 +0000Tilt Shift lensToday i bought the Nikon 24mm PC-E
"PC" stands for perspective control and "E" stands for electronic diaphragm.
Tilt+Shift photography, is a specific type of lens and how you can use it. It is not about a Photoshop, or any other, process. It is about creative photography in-camera, not creative clicking of a mouse, it’s all about creating enhanced visual styles through knowledge of changing the focal plane in relation to an aspect or feature of a composed shot..
Trying to get a perfect focus of an object resting at a 45 degree angle to the camera. It’s not easy with a normal lens, given the slant to the camera’s focal plane, and requires stopping down to f22 or lower, and at these apertures diffraction is very visible on a D800. So if your object is a ridge line you need long exposures. Now imagine being able to rotate and tilt the lens so that the length of the object is lying on the focal plane. Perfect focus. No need to stop down to f22 and/or play with speed and ISO to compensate. That is possible with this lens.
So what i'm trying to accomplish is sharper pictures true out the whole picture, I can't wait to get out there to take pictures.
back on Monday hopefully with great shots.
Wed, 07 Aug 2013 15:35:00 +0000New website onlineSo it is finished! my new improved website is online. It's mainly a photography blog and it took me about 2 weeks to get it where it is today.
It was a bit tricky as I regularly get comments about how great my old website was. But there were two main reasons to change. The first was that my old website wasn't the nicest on mobile devices. I know I could have developed a mobile only website, but if you’re doing that you might as well go all out and make the whole website responsive. so that is what i did, the new website morphs itself to work on any browser – mobile, desktop, tablet whatever
The second reason was because the old site was packed with photographs, and navigation became a mess. in the new site i made 4 categories for easy navigation and onle the verry best photographs are on it. For all my other pictures you can look at my facebook,Flickr or other social pages.
So here we are! Werner Schijvenaars Photography Sept 2013
